St. Jude Candle Ritual - for Lost, Hopeless, Impossible Causes

17th century Saint Jude image

Oh, restless and troubled spirit, how heavy thy heart must be, burdened with the weight of sorrow and despair! For in this cruel world, where hope often flickers like a dying flame, we find solace in the divine intercession of St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes and desperate situations. In the depths of our anguish, we turn to the St. Jude Candle Ritual, a timeless practice that seeks to ignite the fire of faith and beckon the saint's benevolent grace.

And so, my dear companions on this melancholic journey, I implore you to seek solace in the St. Jude Candle Ritual. In the flickering flame, find the strength to confront your despair and the courage to persevere. For even in the darkest of nights, the saint's benevolent presence can ignite the spark of hope within our souls, illuminating the path towards redemption.

As Werther once penned, "Our destiny exercises its influence over us even when, as yet, we have not learned its nature: it is our future that lays down the law of our today." Let us, then, surrender to the divine intercession of St. Jude, for in doing so, we discover the transformative power of faith and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

May the flame of St. Jude's candle guide you through the tempestuous seas of despair, and may you find solace in the unwavering grace of this beloved saint.

For this ritual you need:

-- Florida Water or Bay Rum (optional)
-- a St. Jude Candle, or any green candle
-- something to light it, such as a match

Prepare thy sanctuary, dear seeker, a place where solitude and tranquility reign. Find a quiet room, adorned with symbols of faith, and let the soft glow of candlelight cast ethereal shadows upon the walls. This is your haven, your sanctuary to commune with the celestial forces that guide us.

Gather the tools of this sacred rite, for they shall become the vessels of your intentions. A St. Jude candle, with the image of the saint himself, will be the focal point of your devotion. Place it upon a sturdy surface, where it can stand tall and proud, as a beacon of hope amidst the darkness.

Clean the candle with Bay Rum or Florida Water if you desire, to

As the evening twilight descends, take a moment to center your thoughts and quiet the restless murmurs within. Clear your mind of worldly concerns, and turn your gaze inward, for this ritual is a journey of the soul. Light the St. Jude candle with a steady hand, and watch as the flame takes hold, flickering with an otherworldly glow.

Now, dear seeker, let the stillness guide you. Close your eyes and breathe deeply, allowing the gentle warmth of the candle's light to permeate your being. In this sacred space, allow your heart to speak its truth, its deepest desires, its whispered pleas for divine intervention.

As the candle's flame dances before you, surrender to the vulnerability of your spirit. Speak aloud, if you dare, or whisper in the silence of your soul. Share with St. Jude the burdens that weigh heavily upon your shoulders, the trials that threaten to consume you. For he is the patron saint of lost causes, and in his unwavering compassion, he offers solace to those who suffer.

With each flicker of the flame, offer your prayers and petitions, trusting that St. Jude hears your voice, your silent cries for mercy. Let the words flow freely, like a river unleashed, carrying with them the essence of your pain and longing. Release them into the embrace of the candle's glow, knowing that St. Jude will carry them to the celestial realms.

But remember, dear seeker, the St. Jude Candle Burning Ritual is not a mere recitation of woes. It is a sacred contract, a covenant of faith and resilience. As you pour out your heart, make a solemn pledge to persevere, to hold fast to hope even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Let your intentions be steeped in unwavering belief and gratitude for St. Jude's promised assistance.

As the ritual draws to its natural conclusion, take a moment to express your gratitude. Thank St. Jude for his intercession, for the solace he provides amidst the storms of life. With a steady breath, extinguish the flame, knowing that the connection forged between your spirit and the saint's benevolence will endure.

Dear seeker, the St. Jude Candle Burning Ritual is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, a beacon of light in the darkest of nights. As you embark on this sacred practice, may you find solace, strength, and renewed hope. For in the communion with St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes, we discover that even in our deepest despair, divine intervention is possible.

Paper-in-Shoe Spells

A popular and very traditional hoodoo spell, often used for any situation where you need to control someone with magic , is the namepaper-in-shoe spell. It's very easy: you write the target's name 3, 7, or 9 times on a paper (depending on intent and who's giving instruction) then fold it up, sometimes after dressing it with oils or powders, then put it in your shoe. This "keeps the person underfoot" or "stomps out the trouble" or any other number of metaphors. I had this work several times over the years. In one instance, I was working for a very unpleasant boss, on a short-term job. It was the last day, and I only had about 3 hours of work left on the project; and I wanted him to up my pay for the day since it almost wasn't worth the trip across town for the amount he was paying me, for only 3 hours. He was very reluctant. So I wrote his name 3 times on a 5-dollar bill he'd given me, and dusted it with Bend Over powder. He paid me what I ...

Spiritual Use of Turpentine in Hoodoo and Witchcraft

I have posted in the past about the use of giving one's bedding a spiritual cleansing from time to time.  I recently was laundering my pillows in the same load of laundry as some turpentine-soaked rags, with the result that the pillows emerged from the wash reeking of turpentine.  From a magical perspective, this may not be a bad thing. Turpentine is used in old-time hoodoo rituals for purposes such as uncrossing, protection and sometimes as a feed for mojo bags. Its solvent powers and strong odor do indeed suggest a powerful spiritual cleansing agent, and it is still used in some modern day cleaning products on a purely practical level for these same reasons.  Old time medicines sometimes included turpentine as a thing to drink, in small doses. A book from the 1850s, The Domestic Medicine Chest , recommends giving it to children in a dose of one teaspoon for killing tapeworm. Relatedly, in old time hoodoo cures for "live things" turpentine might be made into a tea...

Blockbuster, Van Van, Uncrossing, Road Opener -- What's the Difference? What to Use Against Jinxes?

Many hoodoo formulas are related to one another, sometimes very closely. Some formulas, Lovers formula versus Love formula, are just manufacturer specific names for what is essentially the same product (or at least a product meant to get the same result.) Sometimes people wonder, what's the difference between Uncrossing and Van Van ? What's the difference between Road Opener and Blockbuster ? First things first: Road Opener, aka Abre Camino, is not a traditional hoodoo formula, it's a Latin American loaner that has come in relatively recently along with a lot of Santeria and Brujeria practices. This is why it seems to cover the same ground that several other old hoodoo mixtures do. Blockbuster might also be in this same boat, though my evidence on this is less sure -- nonetheless it does seem to be a newer formula, in relative terms ( the word "blockbuster" is only datable to around 1940 ) and often sold with an alternate Spanish name "Arrasa con T...

The Intranquil Spirit

(EDIT: Up to date information about the Intranquil Sprit can be found in my book  The Intranquil Spirit , available on Amazon.  This post has some incomplete information which is clarified in the book.) The Intranquility spell is, unfortunately, the first resort of many a rejected lover. In some ways it makes sense -- the more unhappy and forlorn one is about a breakup, the better this idea of making the other partner feel just as much so starts to sound. Unfortunately, this spell is often not well suited to a case. The purpose of the standard Intranquility spell is to have the person be tormented by the spirit until they make contact with you, or whomever the spell is being cast for. This means that if a person is already in good contact with their ex OR if they're one of those people who cannot restrain themselves from initiating contact, then this already is probably not the right spell for that case. If you've had an Intranquility spell cast and you make contac...
